Thunivu starring actor Ajith Kumar in the lead, is a Tamil language heist action entertainer that released in theaters on January 11, 2023. The movie will complete 100 days of continuous run in theaters tomorrow i.e. April 20, 2023 despite its OTT premiere on Netflix within 30 days of release. A few select screens in Tamil Nadu seem to boast of running Thunivu shows even on day 100, and actor-director Samuthirakani who played a pivotal role in the movie made an early celebratory tweet in lieu of the same.

Written and directed by H. Vinoth, Thunivu is a production venture of  Boney Kapoor's Bay View Projects and Zee Studios. The movie's story is about a mysterious criminal mastermind, who along with his team commits a bank heist in Chennai. But the motive of his heist is to find the corporate looted people's money, which one of the bank's board of directors has masterminded to keep for himself. 

Actor Samuthirakani plays the police chief in charge of live-investigating this heist, and one of the scenes where the actor says to a central government character, "Ravindran, This is Tamil Nadu! Don't try to act smart here", after the latter decides to topple his power-of-authority, had particularly garnered a lot of attention.  Many felt it was a reference to the infamous conflict between Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Governor RN Ravi, where the latter walked out of an Assembly session after a fallout with the CM.
