Tamil cinema is gearing up for an interesting box-office clash this weekend with Pathu Thala releasing on March 30, 2023 and Viduthalai: Part 1 releasing on March 31, 2023. Pathu Thala is a big budget action drama starring Silambarasan TR in the lead, and has AR Rahman for music. The Studio Green produced movie starring Gautham Karthik, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Gautham Menon among others is being presented by Shakthi Film Factory in Tamil Nadu.

Viduthalai: Part 1 on the other hand is a more serious film from director Vetrimaaran. Actor Soori makes his debut as a lead, and he co-stars alongside Bhavani Sre, Vijay Sethupathi, Gautham Menon. Ilaiyaraaja has composed music for this movie produced by RS Infotainment and Grass Root Films, and Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies is distributing the film in Tamil Nadu.

Viduthalai: Part 1 and Pathu Thala are getting equal number of shows in Tamil Nadu theaters, and advance bookings are off to a good start for both these films. Content wise, insider reports on the two movies have been good, and trade expects a neck-on-neck competition at the box-office this weekend.
