Varisu and Thunivu released on January 11, 2023 for the Pongal week, and both movies opened up with average to good reviews. The films had a good run in thier opening weekend over a span of 5 days, i.e. from Wednesday till Sunday. Though Thunivu started big in comparison to Varisu, at the end of these 5 days, Varisu took a huge lead in both domestic and overseas markets.
