Trailers of Pongal releases Thunivu starring Ajith Kumar, and Varisu starring Vijay have both been released, and an official announcement on the films' release dates have also confirmed a same day clash on January 11, 2023 [Wednesday]. First impression report (FIR) on of both movies' trailers:

Thunivu Trailer - FIR [Genre: Heist Action Drama]

• Thunivu comes across as a Money Heist-type hostage movie. Given Mankatha [2011], Ajith playing a grey-shaded character is a cake walk for the actor. 

• Ajith's character name being kept under wraps has certainly tickled viewers' curious bones and might turn out to be a trump card for the movie. But between Ajith's grey shaded character, the western cowboy-ish score from Ghibran at the end of Thunivu trailer and buzz of Ajith's name being revealed only at the end of the movie, Ajith's role is giving the 'man with no name' vibes, that Clint Eastwood's 'stranger' character had in the famous Hollywood movie High Plains Drifter (1973). 

• The overall production value of Thunivu, and its other technicals promise an action entertainer that is a mix of class and mass. Manju Warrier firing a machine gun on leg from a moving speed-boat, is a taste of this set-up.

Varisu Trailer - FIR [Genre: Family Action Drama]

• With Varisu, Vijay is back into the mass, masala entertainer movie, films of which category he was known for once. 

• Though the story of a family heir reclaiming business and the entire setup of a joint family with a rogue son returning is in a familiar zone, Vijay and the technical aspects of the film gives us a fresh feel.

• A film of this range / genre is most suitable as a festival day release, and Varisu's scheduled Pongal release seems to be perfectly utilizing the same.
