Emotional Suriya addresses downfall before Soorarai Pottru

If one is a part of/working in the film industry, a 'slump' is most definitely inevitable and even the biggest of stars are prone to be victims of this phase. A few years ago, Tamil actor Suriya was going though it struggling to keep the spikes upward in his career graph. A mix of average hits and below average flops, was keeping from the steadiness in the actor's growth, until Soorarai Pottru came along in 2020.

Off late, Suriya has been collecting the best actor trophies for Soorarai Pottru from multiple events (including the National Film Awards), and in one such award show, Suriya got emotional addressing career-stagnation before Sudha Kongara's film.

"Everyone knows, in recent times many of my films / days were in such a state that they did not satisfy everyone around. Sudha gave me this (film) when I was really desperate (for something to move foward). Thank you Sudha. When I really needed it you gave me this. You brought it back again. You made me love what I do. Thank you for giving me that belief again. This is yours (points trophy to Sudha Kongara)."

In addition to the films bringing mixed results, Suriya was also constantly in the news for some wrong reasons like the body-shaming controversy, his father Sivakumar's controversy, his tiff with his long-time collaborators Gautham Menon and Hari and in 2020 alone - the Thanjavur controversy, the feud with Tamil Nadu screen owners over his films' direct OTT release, the red card threat and controversy over NEET exams that elicited High Court case.

The actor's reference to having 'non-satisfactory days' may refer to the same.
