Mani Ratnam directed Ponniyin Selvan: Part One (PS-I) is all set to release in theaters on September 30, 2022 and a sneak peek video from the movie has now been released. The video partly reveals the core of Kalki Krishnamurthy's Ponniyin Selvan story, which is a assassination plot against actor Vikram's character Aditha Karikalan, by the Pandiya Kingdom.
Aditha Karikalan kills the Pandiya King Veera Pandiyan [Nasser], partly because of the never-ending Cholas VS Pandyas dispute and partly because during the time of this particular clash his childhood love interest Nandini [Aishwarya Rai Bachchan] lives in Veera Pandiya's castle, with the heir prince Amarabujanga Pandian calling her mother. [The actual situation however is that Veera Pandiyan brings Nandini to his palace for being an exact replica of his late Queen Mandakini, who is also Nandini's mother].
In this particular scene we see actor Kishore's Ravidasan character - a Pandya conspirator and the story's antagonist besides Nandini, take an oath to avenge his King's death after they are banished into hiding by Aditha Karikalan's Madurai-takeover. He seeks revenge via the deaths of Aditha Karikalan and his younger brother Arunmozhi Varman, played by Jayam Ravi. PS-I is produced by Lyca Productions, Madras Talkies and will be releasing in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam.
