Ponniyin Selvan is an upcoming multi-starrer period drama that director Mani Ratnam has successfully made after a decade plus of prior attempts. The movie is scheduled to release in two parts and part 1 titled PS-I will hit theater screens on September 30, 2022. The story is primarily set around a royal Chola family and actress Trisha plays Kundavai, the younger sister to the crown prince Aditya Karikalan (Vikram) and elder sister to the titular character (Jayam Ravi) in the movie. 

Karthi plays Vanthiyathevan in PS-I who is not just a commander of the Chola empire, but also Vikram's trusted aide. He is Kundavai's love interest too in this story and making light of the same, Karthi captioned Trisha's latest poster reveal with, "Princess, Please send me live location, (I) have to drop off a scroll from your elder brother."

In Kalki Krishnamurthy's eponymous novel on which the movies are based, Vanthiyathevan is the narrator of the story as well. He is pitted by readers as the second protagonist after the titular character and has been described by the author as brave, adventurous and sarcastic.
