RRR: Baahubali producer calls out Oscar winner over 'gay' statement

Oscar winning Indian sound designer Resul Pookutty courted controversy recently when he dissed the SS Rajamouli directed RRR by calling it a 'gay love story'. While tagging something gay isn't essentially a diss, Resul made the statement under a tweet which called the movie 'garbage' hence it was taken as such. Being a public platform, Resul's tweet was quickly called out by Tollywood producer Shobu Yarlagadda who famously produced the Baahubali movies, also directed by SS Rajamouli.

This isn't the first time RRR has been perceived to be queer; Many who have watched the movie especially in the west found it to have had all the trappings of a conventional Indian onscreen romance, but between two men this time. Shobu's statement reflected that while this isn't an issue [even though RRR is not a movie on homosexual romance], using the same to take a dig comes across as problematic.

RRR is a fictional story based on two real life freedom fighters. The movie stars JR NTR and Ram Charan in the lead and is available to stream on Zee5, Netflix OTT platform.
