As is known actor Sarathkumar will be seen as Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar (all about it here) in director Mani Ratnam's two-part magum opus Ponniyin Selvan. Part 1 of the movie i.e. Ponniyin Selvan 1 aka PS1 is scheduled to release in theaters on September 30, 2022 and recently Sarathkumar opened up on his experience playing the period character.

In an interview with TOI, Sarathkumar called working on Ponniyin Selvan an 'imporant milestone' of his life and proceeded to state,"It will be a film that will be etched in the history of Indian films..It is a subject that is well-known as many have read the book. The number of artistes involved, the schedules, the timings were all formidable. There were days when we would be on the set by 3am and would get our makeup done, which would go on for about a couple of hours."

Sarathkumar was also all praises for Ponniyin Selvan director and co-producer Mani Ratnam. He said of his experience working with the filmmaker,"The production value, the directorial touches, the way Mani sir has handled the whole thing…they will all be talked about. They will be comparing the film to the book, so it’s a challenge that only Mani sir could have handled..The discipline that he maintains on the set is extraordinary. It is work, work and only work. His work discipline, timing sense and perfection are qualities one should learn from him."
