Ameer Sultan who made his directorial debut with the Suriya starrer Mounam Pesiyadhe (2002) and was last seen as Rajan in Vetrimaaran's Vadachennai (2018), is reportedly playing a key role in Vaadivaasal, Vetrimaaran's upcoming movie with Suriya. Interestingly Andrea Jeremiah who was Rajan's pair in Vadachennai has also been linked to Vaadivaasal, though there are no official confirmations of the cast as yet.

Vaadivaasal is based on a 1959 novel of the same name by C.S. Chellappa and is expected to go on floors in October, 2021. The story in the book revolves around Picchi, a young man from Usilanur, who intends to take revenge on Kaari, the bull which killed his father Ambuli.

Suriya is expected to play both father and son in the movie, which is produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu's V Creations and has GV Prakash for music. The technical crew also includes Velraj for cinematography, Jacki for art and the audio rights of the movie are held by Think Music India.

Director Vetrimaaran has stated in a Vikatan interview that only Suriya and Ameer have been confirmed as part of the film's cast.
