Director Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan will be releasing in two parts PS - I and PS -II and recently editor of the movie Sreekar Prasad revealed that 80% of shooting for both these films have been completed. PS - I is gearing up for a release in 2022 while PS - II is expected to follow after that.

Being a periodic epic, a lot of technical work is involved in the movies and Sreekar Prasad has said that any technician can learn a lot from the challenges and scope, a film like Ponniyin Selvan with a director like Mani Ratnam provides.

Ponniyin Selvan is a big budgeted movie and according to the editor, Lyca Productions' estimate of Rs. 500 Cr. is possible, only because of the ability to access a film from anywhere in the world.
