For the Tamil film audience, the title Sanki has been synonymous with a prospective Shah Rukh Khan-Atlee movie, for which they have been awaiting confirmation for a while. However, Sanki is actually the title of another Hindi movie which a remake of the Tamil film Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru aka D16.

Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Sanki is their third film with Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan and will see him reprise Rahman's role of a middle-aged policeman. This is also the first time Varun portrays a physically handicapped character.

Parineeti Chopra is said to be playing female lead in this film, as the script is being adapted to suit the taste of the Hindi film audience. Varun who is currently a part of Bhediya and Jug Jugg Jeeyo is expected to start Sriram Raghavan's Ekkis in September, 2021 and reportedly the actor will finish shooting for Sanki before that.
