Karnan second single Pandarathi Puranam composed by Santhosh Narayanan and sung by Deva was released on March 2, 2021. Post the song's release a petitioner named Prabhu approached the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court and filed a welfare petition claiming that the song demeans the 'pandaram' community in Tamil Nadu.

The petitioner demanded removal of the song and opposed Karnan's release till appropriate action was taken. The court then sent notices to director Mari Selvaraj, producer Kalaipuli S Thanu and the YouTube channel in which the song was uploaded and adjourned the next hearing to April 16, 2021.

This isn't the first time Karnan has been feared of creating a communal conflict in Tamil Nadu. Previously, actor-politician Karunas had demanded the halting of Karnan shooting due to its story revolving around a caste-conflict in Kodiyankulam.
