After 20 years of quitting the film industry, actress Shalini now popularly known as Shalini Ajith seems to be making a comeback to the movies. Mani Ratnam who had directed her in the award winning 2000 cult hit Alaipayuthey seems to have casted her in his upcoming period drama Ponniyin Selvan.

The role is said to be a cameo in the magnum opus which boasts of star names like Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Karthi and Jayam Ravi among others. Ponniyin Selvan is currently being shot at Hyderabad and Shalini is expected to fly there before the team wraps their second schedule in the city.

There have been no official announcements on the development but it is being said that Shalini's character in the movie will be a strong and pivotal one.
