Largo Winch & Telugu Films: A copyright saga!

Largo Winch, a 2008 French action thriller based on a Belgian book of the same name gained wide popularity among Indian netizens after Pawan Kalyan's 2018 movie Agnyaathavaasi was found to have 'lifted' its plot and some frame by frame scenes, and got embroiled in a copyright controversy. Largo Winch's director Jerome Salle publicly called out the makers and it ended with them settling an undisclosed amount to T-series, a company that actually held the Indian remake rights of the movie.

Now, in a series of tweets again, Jerome Salle has called out another Telugu film team for "free-making" his story of one man going up against the mighty and powerful to restore order. While Agnyathaavasi was a blatant free-make of an exiled rich heir coming back to claim what originally is his, Saaho uses a different plot of power struggle in a criminal syndicate and how intelligence uses it to their advantage.

Noting the same, Salle tweeted, "It seems this second "freemake" of Largo Winch is as bad as the first one. So please Telugu directors, if you steal my work, at least do it properly?" adding a sarcastic, "I think I have a promising career in India." Team Saaho or its director Sujeeth are yet to comment on the situation. However, it is worth mentioning here that the film has also been accused of plagiarizing contemporary artist Shilo Shiv Suleman's artwork for a poster of the film's song Baby Won't You Tell Me.

Model-actress Lisa Ray called out the makers in an Instagram post where she alleged that the makers did not ask Shilo Shive Suleman for her "permission" or "offer her a credit." [Full Text of her Complaint Here
