Rajinikanth under spotlight again! Draws flak for supporting Article 370 & praising Amit Shah on Jammu & Kashmir issue!

The abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and the proposed bifurcation of the state to Union Territories Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh (effective October 31, 2019) is the most highlighted political debate of our country at the moment. Anyone and everyone who has been opining on the topic has gained equal traction and have received opposition, one way or the other.

From the Tamil film industry, while actor Vijay Sethupathi has termed bifurcation of the state 'undemocratic', actor Rajinikanth with his praise of Amit Shah has come under the radar once again for his political stance. At an event Rajini congratulated the Home Minister for 'Mission Kashmir' and said (sic),

"The way you conducted it (Mission Kashmir), hats off..especially the speech you delivered in Parliament, fantastic Sir,..Now people will come to know who he is..Amit Shah..I am happy about that..Amit Shah Ji and Modi Ji is like Krishna, Arjuna combination..I am wishing good luck to you, to country through you."

Article 370 along with article 35 a gave J&K a special status which meant that laws pertaining to citizenship, property and fundamental rights for the state residents were different from that of rest of the country. The RSS-BJP government have been at forefront of having this article removed ever since they came to power in 2014 and finally brought it into effect last week.

However, the country remains divided over scrapping of the article with some calling it a much welcome move which will help in the integration of a long alienated state into mainland India while others terming it 'forceful'. Rajinikanth's stance has invited sharp criticism from people of Tamil Nadu, a state known to be famously BJP-intolerant and while fans of the actor have certainly come to his rescue, it is impossible not to notice the hatred being thrown at the actor for his congratulatory 'Mission Kashmir' message.
