Weekly Earworm – Week10 – 20/07/2019 | Ramesh S Kannan
Santosh Narayan delivers the terrific tune for A1 while Justin Prabhakaran continues his dream run this year with Naadodigal 2.
Kaappaan(Tamil): Harris Jayaraj: Kurilae Kurilae: Kurilae is the new low in Harris Jayaraj's repertoire and sounds more like Anegan's Roja Kadale with debatable choice of singers. The heavily processed vocals of Darshana takes some time to seep in while Javed Ali's questionable diction irks at some places.. Harris continues his gibberish sounds in the interludes while the tune hardly manages to impress.
A1 (Tamil): Santosh Narayanan: Maalai Nera: Santosh Narayanan uses his Telugu debut Melam Moge tune from Billa Ranga for Maalai Nera. The wonderful quirky tune works magically in Tamil also despite Chinna's vocal and force-fitted lyrics takes time, Santosh's brilliant tune holds the song together. The highlight of the track is undeniably the violin solos and the peculiar tone of the song.
Naadodigal 2 (Tamil): Justin Prabhakaran: Adhuva Adhuva: Justin Prabhakaran's dream run this year continues with Naadodigal also and the lilting serene tune of Adhuva Adhuva with minimal guitar-laden arrangements has the remarkable old world charm attached to it. Sooraj Santosh and Shweta Mohan delivers the tune fabulously.
Dear Comrade (Tamil): Justin Prabhakaran: Dear Comrade Anthem: The anthemic song sticks to its template and this song falls tad below the quality of the songs released till now from this album. The familiar tune rides mainly on the Vijay Sethupathi vocals while Stony Psyko and Dope Daddy's rap portions don't quite seamlessly blend with the main tune.
Comali (Tamil): Hip Hop Tamizha: Yaara Comali: The tune of Yaara Comali treads along with the familiar soundscape of the composer while the Hip Hop Tamizha's lyrics that rant against the social media and the technology. Though the track has nothing outstanding to offer, the composer manages to conceive listenable song till it lasts.
Pick of the week: Maalai Nera, Adhuva Adhuva
