Kollywood actors boycott FilmFare Awards and here's why

The 65th FilmFare Awards (South) function was held on June 17 at the Hyderabad International Convention CentreFilmfare Awards South are the annual awards to honour talent and excellence across south Indian movies such as Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam. However this year many of the Kollywood actors had boycotted the FilmFare 2018 Awards function including the winners. (Read: Filmfare Awards South 2018 winners' list)

Kollywood actors Vijay Sethupathi, Karthi, Simbu and Nayanathara were among the actors who had skipped the event.  Nadigar Sangam had made the decision to boycott the Awards function as the FilmFare awards organisers refused to pay the donation demanded by them.

Nadigar Sangam had earlier made a decision that actors should participate only in functions in which they are paid, or only in functions where the organising entities contribute donations to Nadigar Sangam and Tamil Film Producer Council. The resolution was made as the artists association felt that the organizers of many film related functions, award ceremonies, dance and television programmes have benefited a lot commercially by involving the film actors. Nadigar Sangam has decided to get payments or donations for participating in events and to use the money they receive for the benefits of the members in the association.

Nadigar Sangam had also communicated their new norms to the organisers of FilmFare Awards much ahead of the event. However since the organizers didn’t give heed to their demands, Nadigar Sangam decided to boycott the FilmFare Awards function and all the actors were also informed about the same.

TFPC President and Nadigar Sangam secretary, actor Vishal also thanked Simbu, Nayanthara, Khushbu Sundar, Karthi and other actors who did not attend the function.
