Sterlite Protest: Tamil Film Celebrities question the Government over death of anti-sterlite protestors

Tuticorin locals took to the street today to protest against the expansion of Sterlite Copper, a unit of Vedanta Limited and the agitation took an ugly turn when  the Tamil Nadu Police resorted to firing and lathi-charge killing as many as 9 people and injuring many. With the death toll not being final, prominent personalities from the film industry have started expressing their dismay over this unfortunate situation with almost all of them questioning the governments of both the state and centre to provide explanation for the need of the same.

The protesters we hear were seen pelting stones, toppling police vehicles and torching vehicles inside the collector's office that seemed to have led to the fatal open fire. News reports also said that as many as 2000 police personnel from nearby districts have been brought in to bring the tense situation at Tuticorin under control.
