Violence broke out in Thoothukudi yesterday after thousands took to the streets and indulged in vandalization despite the 144 orders, before being lathi-charged and open-fired by the police present there. The event has become a topic of state-wide debate with both the state and the central government being blamed for ignoring to take necessary precautions to control the crowd and negligence of everyone's safety.
