Arvind Swami's open talk on TFPC policies at Bhaskar Oru Rascal press-meet

During the press-meet of Bhaskar Oru Rascal which is an upcoming film of Aravind Swamy, the actor was seen getting candid about the TFPC strike, the policies the council has introduced post the strike and more. Excerpts from his speech can be found below:

On TFPC Strike
When asked about his tweet during the TFPC strike where he mentioned that he 'was getting tired of it', Arvind Swami said,

"In general I hold the opinion that things can be solved through talking, discussing and analysing. Be it business or anything else, stopping work is not considered good my most people. Maybe they (producers' council) tried but they were left with no choice but to go in for a strike. I do not know the details.
The strike was supported by everyone. Even I supported it. My request was only towards faster resolution (because) even though everyone participated to support the strike, many in the industry are daily labourers and people who earn daily wages. If we extend too much, their lives will be affected. This was the time when school ended and people went on vacation. So extending wouldn't have been the right thing to do. Since I felt most were getting affected I said even I was getting tired."

On TFPC scheduling Movie Releases
As is known, the Tamil Nadu Film Producers' Council has taken it upon themselves to schedule movie releases post the strike and only films that get clearance from the council hit theatre screens. This also includes no more than 3 Tamil movie releases per week and hence will go on for a period of over a year. When asked about this, Swami said,

"Conceptually it is fine but at the end of the day I do not know what is the basis of this scheduling. For example we (team Bhaskar Oru Rascal) were supposed to come on April 28 but we did not get theatres for a wide release. Tamil Nadu only has a limited number of theatres. We can say 1000 theatres for the count, but if you look at theatres which have 'first releases', there will only be some 700 odd. So when 3-4 films have to share these 700+ theatre screens, who can decide that a particular film can only come in these theatres or these many theatres.
No one can decide that. I do not know how they are doing that. It is a good thing to have space for each and every film, I just don't know what their plan is for that."

On TFPC's impact on Bhaskar Oru Rascal
"We had the same problem. Our intention was to release the film in 300-350 theatres. But we couldn't achieve that. There was Avengers (Infinity War), Avengers Telugu and a few other Tamil films. So when 4-5 films are left to share, theatres would not be adequate. Theatres would be available no doubt but the you will not be satisfied with the numbers. A number which is ok is decided by a film's producer and distributor. So maybe the council has a good plan for this."

Other Constraints
Aravind Swami also spoke about the time constraint a film-maker is left between getting clearance from TFPC and the film hitting theatre screens. He said,

"We initially were to release the film within a week's time of the strike coming to an end. One can't plan properly within such a short time. But since it has been confirmed for May 11 now, we have spoken to theatres in advance and have two weeks' time to plan everything.
The council is working with the rule of releasing first the films which were censored before the strike. We (Bhaskar Oru Rascal) were in the first lot. Just because we were in the first slot, we cannot release a film while having not enough theatres. The producers and the distributors who have invested also have to look at their economical recovery. Only they can decide that..A third person cannot come and say this release is enough; It's a free country. Planning (by TFPC) is fine but implementation is something that needs discussion (with film-makers whose films are being scheduled for release)."
