Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners & Distributors Association to take legal action against TFPC?

If reports are anything to go by, then the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners and Distributors Association is all set to file a complaint with the Competition Commission of India against the Vishal led Tamil Nadu Film Producers' Council (TFPC) for its 40 day long industry-wide strike. Reports quote Nikilesh Surya, the executive director of Rohini Silver Screens, Chennai as stating, "The activity of the TFPC is sabotaging the existing market and demanding the service of DSPs for free is against the laws in the country. We have already discussed the issue amongst theatre owners. We will be approaching the CCI within the next few days,"

The Competition Commission of India or the CCI is a statutory body of the Government of India. It is responsible for enforcing The Competition Act, 2002  which prohibits anti-competitive agreements, abuse of dominant position by enterprises and regulates combinations, The CCI is also responsible for promoting and sustaining competition in markets, protecting the interests of consumers and ensuring freedom of trade carried on by other participants in the Indian market.

According to reports, the theatre owners and distributors association will be alleging that the 40 day strike, in which a total-ban was implemented in the last 26 days is anti-market in nature.
