The film went on floors at the end of January and the shooting has been wrapped in less than two months. The film marks the first-time collaboration of Udhay and Ramaswamy, with national award-winning filmmaker Seenu Ramaswamy. Kanne Kalaimaane has been titled after the popular song from Kamal Haasan’s 1982 film Moondram Pirai. Tamannaah Bhatia plays the leading lady opposite Udhayanidhi. Yuvan Shankar Raja has been roped in to compose the music. The film is produced by Udhayanidhi's home banner Red Giant Movies.
