Sakka Podu Podu Raja - A tedious watch!!!

Bharath Vijayakumar

Sakka Podu Podu Raja is another attempt by Santhanam to shine as a hero but a few minutes into the film and you sadly realise that this is not working. Having watched the trailer I honestly did not walk into the film with any hopes. But nothing could prepare me for what was on store. There are bad jokes. There are ridiculous jokes. There are even unfunny jokes. But then there are jokes like the ones in this film. They send you to a state of obliviousness. The movie was so loud with every actor hamming it up. But there I was in the auditorium, completely unaffected by all this din. Given the authority, I might confer sainthood on myself for watching this film with such composure. To give the film its due I am not complaining about the plot or the lack of it. Mindless comedies are fine but what we get here is a sense that the audience have been taken for granted. Vivekh is the only one who manages to get us to laugh a bit. A couple of songs might sound catchy but in the movie all the songs are monotonous and keeping popping up so often.

It is obvious that Santhanam wants to be a star. He gets an opening song with lyrics doubling up as advices to humanity. But he is the one who needs advice the most at this point. Sakka Podu Podu Raja actually completes a full circle for this man. After playing the hero's friend in numerous films and evoking laughter at the expense of trolling them, here it feels as though he is trolling himself. If this movie came a couple of years back when Santhanam was still doing comic roles this could have been easily mistaken for a spoof. Santhanam has obviously worked a lot to look the part as a hero. When he is willing to bend his body, one sincerely hopes he does a lot of thinking before he signs these projects as well.It is not the lack of potential but potential being wasted that is more disheartening.

Bottomline:

Time and again it needs to be reiterated that comedy is serious business. Sakka Podu Podu Raja has a battalion of comedians but sadly very less comedy.

Verdict: 1.5/5
