A tedious watch

Sakka Podu Podu Raja actually completes a full circle for this man. After playing the hero's friend in numerous films and evoking laughter at the expense of trolling them, here it feels as though he is trolling himself. If this movie came a couple of years back when Santhanam was still doing comic roles this could have been easily mistaken for a spoof. (more)

This Santhanam-starrer is a tedious watch

The result is Sakka Podu Podu Raja (SPPR), which is a tedious watch. Santhanam does everything in the film that one would associate with a Rajinikanth, Vijay or Ajith formula film. From a dramatic introduction scene, to a heroine swooning over him, from songs in exotic locations, to fighting a dozen men Santhanam does it all in SPPR. (more)

Santhanam offers a string of tired cliches

Sakka Podu Podu Raja is a string of cliches lined one after another. Somehow, we are expected to be entertained or surprised by the events. Also anything seems to be a punchline these days. Despite the exaggeration, punch dialogues are enjoyable when the right things are said the appropriate way. (more)

The errors of comedy

Sakka Podu Podu Raja keeps ambling with zero purpose, with Santhanam trying his hand repeatedly at dance and fight sequences. He even tries showing off hero mannerisms, a la Rajinikanth. Nothing works. Maybe he is better off rewinding the clock and going back to playing the role of a hero's friend. (more)

Santhanam's SPPR has very less entertainment factor!

The film doesn't offer anything new for the audience, and even the comedies look very old-fashioned with done and dusted counter dialogues. The hero falls in love with the heroine at the first sight, then a song follows suit, then comes the villain introduction, and the proceedings follow further, as expected. (more)
