Na. Muthukumar's legacy to continue beyond Sarvam Thaala Mayam
“He once said to me that if I die one day, my family should receive the royalties for my songs. I hope it happens someday so that all musicians and writers will thank Muthukumar.”
This was the Madhan Karky's recollection about lyricist Na. Muthukumar a day after his untimely death on August 14, 2016. Almost a year and half later, the late lyricist's saga continues with songs from 2.0, Taramani and the recently announced Sarvam Thaala Mayam.
Reportedly Sarvam Thaala Mayam was the last project Na. Muthukumar worked on before his demise (A.R. Rahman is said to have pre-composed the songs this G.V. starrer with Na. Muthukumar's lyrics), but it may not be his last of releases yet. People in the know-how of Muthukumar's work inform us that his lyrics are to feature in over a dozen films, some of which have not even been announced till now.
While on one hand this comes as a happy news to the fans of the late artist, on the other we sincerely hope that the two-time National award grabber is given due credit for his work and the royalties for his work reach his immediate family.
