Chennai recreates Aalaporan Tamizhan moment, gets recognised by UNESCO
While the rest of the country was dwelling in the year gone by since the note-ban aka Demonetisation, the people of Tamil Nadu had a tiny ray of light to rejoice about, that almost went unnoticed. The state's capital Chennai was announced to be included in the Creative Cities Network (CCN) of UNESCO thus becoming the third city after Jaipur (Rajasthan) and Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) to be honoured with the coveted inclusion. The capital city has been selected for its contribution to music and is now a part of 116 other cities from various countries network.
Chennai was nominated to the CCN by the Union Cultural ministry of India. It will be monitored by UNESCO for the next 4 years and will play host to various cultural events. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman sent our a congratulatory messages on Chennai being selected and recreating the Aalaporan Tamizhan moment.
