Vizhithiru Review - Interesting core that gets diluted on screen

Vizhithiru - Interesting core that gets diluted on screen!!!

Bharath Vijayakumar

The very first frame of the film is that of a news anchor talking about a murder. So Vizhithiru gets into action right away and we are already into the plot. This is definitely a good thing and you expect the film to be tightly packed given that it actually plays out like a thriller. But what it eliminates in the form of comedy or romance it actually infiltrates the same in the numerous simultaneous tracks that the film follows. It actually has four of them that converge in the climax. But the core plot and the one that actually holds our interest is the one about the murder that kick started the film. Kreshna is the pivot in this track. Each of the other tracks follows a pattern. The Viddharth-Sai Dhansika plays out in a lighter vein. The Venkat Prabhu - Baby Sara part thrives on melodrama and the third one is supposedly a romance. There is nothing wrong with the idea but the execution of these 3 tracks leave a lot to be desired.

This is one of those films that would look really great on paper but on screen, it is nowhere near what it should have been. Among the cast Kreshna, Viddharth and Dhansika seem the most comfortable. The acting is mostly substandard from the rest. But all this seem more like a limitation in presenting something whereas the ideas are pretty much there. The romantic track that involves an arrogant rich guy for example. It is laughably bad. But you understand the intent. But how would you describe that dance number with TR? It will rank right at the top as one of the most excruciating experiences at the cinemas for me in recent memory. The film I believe was started in 2012 and went through many delays. So some of these decisions should be getting our benefit of doubt.

As I said earlier, the central track that involves a murder is what keeps Vizhithiru going. It is nowhere near flawless but the tension is real and you are invested with the character that Kreshna plays. This part about how the system tries to frame an innocent could have been an entire film in itself. A serious topic that could either be dealt as in Visaranai or as a commercial actioner like Vaamanan ends up following the middle ground. A particular FM channel following Kreshna's activities through a phone call is another juicy prospect in this track that is never fully exploited.

Bottomline:

What could have been a much better film is undone by some amateurish execution. A watchable thriller at best that gets better towards the end.
