Despite the representatives of the Tamil film industry holding discussions with Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and other ministers in the government, as an extension of state-wide theatre shutdown,1127 theatre screens remained closed for the 3rd day straight today. The strike against the State government comes at a time when it was believed that the implementation of GST would remove the state government’s additional tax of 30% and encourage movie-enthusiasts to watch cinemas in theatre halls. However the current scenario has brought the overall tax rate to 64% and has put a big question mark over the future of Tamil film industry.
