Sivalinga Review - A murder mystery that is laughably pretentious

Plot:

A pigeon with an IQ higher than the hero helps him or rather actually solves a murder case.

You do expect a certain kind of loudness associated with films such as Sivalinga. It sells and you wonder why? That Motta Shiva Ketta Shiva released only a few weeks ago helps us in a way since it will take some time to get another film that is that loud. Sivalinga definitively scores a little lower in the decibel meter.

The film does start with a sense of urgency and the first scene is in fact the crux of the film. It then plays out like a variation of the Muni series. But the Muni films did not pretend to be something that they weren't . They were unabashedly loud and if you were okay with that style it had some payoff in the form of genuine laughs. Sivalinga does have Vadivelu get back into noticeable form and there is some fun in seeing the ace comedian get it right in a few scenes. But the comedy as a whole never really comes together.

The biggest joke is reserved for the core plot with Lawrence playing a CBCID officer in a fashion that looks straight out of a poorly made spoof. There is not one stretch in the film that is remotely thrilling. A duet followed by a comedy followed by a scene where a pigeon hands over a clue to the hero. This vicious cycle keeps playing over and over. The bigger problem is with these clues. Imagine this scenario - You are given a puzzle to find out a two letter word. The clue is that the first letter is 'I' and the second is 'S'. Imagine someone  taking two hours to decode this. This is the sort of feel that Sivalinga gives you. All this is bearable but having the hero strut around in coolers with facial expressions that he is actually solving a true blue puzzle is what irks you.

Bottomline:

Sivalinga is like watching those T20 matches between two incompetent teams. The playing standard is poor but the format ensures that you aren't really that bored.
