Maattrraan Press Meet Interesting Tid Bits

Maattrraan Press Meet Interesting Tid Bits - Sept 30, 2012

Maattrraan press meet was held on Sunday and fully represented by Press fraternity. Maattrraan team shared a number of interesting details about the movie

About Suriya's Hardwork

As a cinematographer, Anand said he has worked with Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Shah Rukh Khan and others. Whenever he had to ask for 'one more take', artists are usually slightly unhappy to go for an extra take after giving their best performance. However, Anand claimed that it is a very different story with Suriya. Suriya is always willing to go for 'one more take' very happily. Immediately, Suriya quipped back that he can’t act well and needs at least 17 takes to satisfy the directors. The press reporters burst out laughing for Suriya's quick response.

About Harris' Music

KV Anand commented that composer Harris Jayaraj has done a great job in the re-recording and there are only two reels left for Harris Jayaraj to complete his re-recording work and after that the movie would be ready for censor and release.

Conjoined Twins shown in positive light

Conjoined twins will not be shown from a sympathetic point or dwell into their physical challenges. The movie will focus mostly on the emotional aspects told in a realistic manner. The movie boasts of some very difficult action sequence and dance moves performed by Suriya. Suriya repeated these sequences twice to match for both characters of the conjoined twins.

Suriya in a new character Agilan

Suriya revealed that the character Agilan is irresponsible and something that Suriya has never done in the past. Suriya warned people to be careful of KV Anand and writer duos Suba for coming up with a character like Agilan.

For the Vimalan character, Karthi has dubbed in the Telugu version ‘Brothers’. Karthi was so moved by the portrayal of these characters that he wished he was born conjoined with Suriya, revealed the director.

Performance Capture Technology and Visual Effects

Maattrraan would be the first movie to use the performance capture technology in India and each scene was shot twice for the purpose of conjoined twins. Five cameras were used to capture and in CG, these shots were merged to portray the conjoined twins. A total of roughly 400 CG assistants had worked for Maattrraan since the beginning of this year. For the connecting parts, Maattrraan make-up team had imported silicon from the USA to join the two Suriyas at the hip. They have consulted doctors from the Apollo Hospitals to make sure that the conjoined twins’ angle has been portrayed authentically.

Maattrraan has a strong social theme

Writers Suba spoke about Anand's interest in social themes, right from 'Kana Kandaen' about water problem. 'Ayan' about diamond drug trafficking and in 'Ko' about the emergence of youth in politics. Suba mentioned that they have addressed a burning social issue. As one would expect, the writers did not reveal specific details about the nature of social issue.
