Open Letter to Mysskin

Subject: Why Mysskin's technicians are denied credit in posters and teasers?

Open Letter to Mysskin

I am an Assistant Director in the industry and would like to submit an open letter to Mysskin. I have been a big fan of Mysskin and love his making style and the unique perspectives he adopts in telling a story. Mysskin's Anjaathe inspired me to become an assistant director. However, one aspect of Mysskin that I am not a fan is that he gets caught in controversies by commenting on topics outside his core topic of interest.

Why Mysskin hides credits?

The question that I would like to place to Mysskin is that why he doesn't give credit to key crew members of his movies -- music directors, cameraman, editors, lyricist and other technicians in his posters. Recently, a full page Mugamoodi advertisement was published in English dailies despite breaking the rules set by film council which allows only up to quarter page ads. Despite having so much black open space on the poster, the key technicians associated with the movie such as music director K, Cameraman Sathya, lyricist Karky, editor, stunt director and art directors are no where to be seen in that overpowering full page advertisement. The teaser video also did not give any credit to all these crew members. Only name that shows prominently is that of Mysskin, Jiiva and of course, the producers.

During the trailer launch, Mysskin's paternalistic attitude towards Sathya, K and others was not professional when he addressed them as his babies ("kuzhandhai"). As a result, all these fine technicians and creators have been living in Mysskin's shadows and their work not getting due credit among general public and fellow movie-makers. This is not just an isolated incident specific to Mugamoodi. When you go back to Nandalala and Yuththam Sei, one could see similar pattern where most of the pre-release posters doesn't carry any of the technician names.

Free advice to Mysskin from a common man

Here is Mysskin's turn to get free advice from a common man. Movie-making is a team effort and that's why all the recently released posters such as Shankar's "I" did not fail to credit every single person who has been booked as part of the project so far. Please respect the contributions made by every person in the movie making process and give them the due credit all these fine technicians deserve.

Hope Mysskin gets a chance to read this letter and make necessary changes before the audio release. We will look forward to seeing credits for all the key technicians in the posters that will be released as part of audio release on July 20th, Friday. Looking forward to a blockbuster from Mysskin and his team.
