Last weekend saw Sundar C's Aranmanai 2 and Madhavan's Ritika Singh's Irudhi Suttru clashing at the box office, even as Sivakarthikeyan's Rajini Murugan was going strong in its third weekend. Check out the box office ranking of Tamil movies in Chennai during last weekend.

 

1. Aranmanai 2


In spite of not-so-good reviews, Sundar C's Aranmanai 2 took a very good opening, thanks to its popular cast and crew. The movie's first day gross in Tamil Nadu stood at Rs 5.22 crore and it is likely to be become a runaway hit.

 

2. Irudhi Suttru


Sudha Kongara's Irudhi Suttru has become the first critically acclaimed film of the year and the movie is being raved by all sections of the audience too. Boxer turned actress Ritika Singh has become the talk of the town for her brilliant performance, while Madhavan has been getting his share of appreciation for his raw and matured performance. Expect the movie to gain momentum through this week with positive buzz flooding in from all quarters.

 

3. Rajini Murugan


In spite of two new releases, Rajini Murugan held on to sizeable number of screens with good occupancy levels, which shows that Sivakarthikeyan has entered into the next big league of heroes.

 

Other Movies


Kathakali, Gethu and Tharai Thappattai had lost most of their screens to new releases, and they are nearing their theatrical runs.

 

Upcoming week's releases


Vetrimaaran's award-winning film, Visaranai and Bangalore Naatkal will be hitting the screens on February 5.
