The reasons for the last minute cancellations of Billa 2's trailer launch, uncertainty about release dates and behind-the-door re-negotiations between the producer and distributor are starting to emerge.

Aascar tried to renegotiate; Hinduja group stood their ground

The sources close to the matter quote that Aascar had bought the rights for Rs. 28 Crores based on the assumption that the movie would get an "U/A" certificate. Since the "A" certificate was unexpected and had put a dent in box office expectations, Aascar wanted to renegotiate with Hinduja group to reduce the contract price by additional Rs. 4 Crores.

A series of heated conversations ensued during last few days when Aascar and producers battled it out and went to the point of even discussing the legal ramifications of violating the official contracts. This resulted in cancellation of the trailer release event on July 2nd. During the entire process, Producers did not budge and due to tremendous pressure mounting from Thala fans to release the movie on 13th, Aascar had to back down his demands of slashing the agreed contract price.

Now, Aascar is back to work to maximize the box office returns. With just 8 more days for release, internet promotions of the movie are in full swing already. The TV and FM radio promotions are expected to intensify in the next few days.
