MovieCrow Box Office Report - August 7 to 9

While movies like Mahesh Babu's Srimanthudu and Mission Impossible 5 ruled the box office last weekend, Tamil movies took a backseat as there was no big hype around Chandi Veeran's release. Check out the box office ranking of Tamil movies in Chennai during last weekend.

1. Baahubali

In spite of decreased show count, Baahubali held on to bigger screens in multiplexes and was getting excellent footfalls even in its fifth weekend. It looks like the movie will disrupt many more box office records in the coming weeks.

2. Chandi Veeran

After the disastrous Naiyaandi, director Sarkunam was back with Chandi Veeran last weekend. The movie received a decent opening, but the reviews aren't encouraging enough. It would be an optimistic comment to say that the movie will gain momentum from here.

3. Sakalakalavallavan

Jayam Ravi's Sakalakalavallavan managed to hold on to majority of its screens from the first weekend. However, the movie's fate at the box office depends on its performance this week.

Other Movies

Orange Mittai was unlucky to be caught among the tornado of new releases, while Idhu Enna Maayam almost sank without a trace in its second weekend. Papanasam and Maari were running across a handful of screens.

Upcoming week's releases

Director Rajesh's Vasuvum Saravananum Onna Padichavanga (VSOP), starring Arya, Santhanam and Tamannah will be hitting the screens on August 14th. Simbu's long-delayed film, Vaalu, is also expected to release on the same day.
