Superstar Rajinikanth's speech is a highly looked forward to event, before every release of the Tamil actor, and ahead of Coolie's release, his upcoming action thriller that hits theater screens on August 14, Rajinikanth has once again delivered a memorable speech.

Sun Pictures produced Coolie had an audio cum trailer launch event under the title 'Coolie Unleashed' on August 2, 2025 at the Jawaharlal Nehru indoor stadium at Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Highlights from Rajinikanth's speech at the event: 

About Coolie writer, director Lokesh Kanagaraj: 

"Lokesh is the ultimate hero of Coolie. Lokesh gave a 2-hour interview (as part of the film's promotions)...I sat down to watch it, but couldn't. I lied down and watched it, and it didn't finish. I slept off, woke up, and saw, and still the interview was going on." The interview Rajinikanth mentions here in jest is the one Lokesh Kanagaraj gave popular Tamil TV host Gobinath, on the latter's YoutTube channel.

Rajinikanth also uses the Tamil word 'mudiyala' here which is according to the intonation of speech could mean both "it didn't finish", and "I couldn't". The 74 year old finding clever ways to add hilarity to his stories, is one of the reasons why Rajinikanth's speeches are big crowd pullers.  The actor also hilariously pulled his director Lokesh's leg by stating,

"During the Coolie narration, Lokesh Kanagaraj told me, "Sir, I'm a Kamal Haasan fan". (In my mind, I went) "Hey.. Did i u ask you? Did I ask whose fan you are..? Then why..?". This was Lokesh's indirect way of telling me that Coolie is an intelligent story, and not a punch dialogue speaking one.."

 

About Nagarjuna:

"I was shocked to learn that Nagarjuna said ok to Coolie. Because he is definitely not someone who could be lured in with money. Because he is not just a rich man in Hyderabad's Telugu film industry, but he is one of the richest men in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana combined. Nagarjuna cannot be lured in with money at all.

Then I remembered the dialogue director Venkat Prabhu wrote for (actor) Ajith in (the Tamil movie) Mankatha. (Rajinikanth is extremely delighted over the crowd eruption at the mention of Ajith's name). 'How many more days only will I act as a good man?'. That is Nagarjuna. That is how Nagarjuna came on board Coolie."
