A year ago, MovieCrow had reported that Sardar 2 starring Karthi in the lead will have Yuvan Shankar Raja for music, and will go on floors as the lead actor's 28th movie i.e. Karthi 28. Latest we hear, Karthi 28 i.e. Sardar 2 is all set to begin shooting from July, 2024. 

A sequel to the spy action thriller Sardar (2022), Sardar 2 sees the return of Karthi along with production company Prince Pictures, director PS Mithran, cinematographer George C Williams, and stunt master Dhilip Subbarayan. The team has plans of beginning the shooting in Chennai, where huge sets have been erected for filming. 

Sardar 2 filming is also expected to be taking place in overseas locations like Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, where the crew is said to have gone for a recce over time. Kannada actress Ashika Ranganath who made her Tamil debut with the Atharvaa starrer Pattathu Arasan (2022), plays one of the female leads in Sardar 2.
