Actor Dhanush who has two directorial credits - Pa Paandi (2017) and the yet to release D 50 (tentative title), has begun shooting for his third film as director. DD3 which stands for Dhanush's third movie as director, will star Dhanush's nephew as the lead actor. He is paired opposite Anikha Surendran, famous for playing child artiste in Tamil movies like Yennai Arindhaal (2015), Viswasam (2019) and Maamanithan (2022). 

DD3 has GV Prakash for music, and the movie was launched with an official pooja ceremony over the weekend. The film is a joint production venture of Sun Pictures and Gopuram Films Production.
