Tamil film/TV celebrities help Chennai recover from Cyclone Michaung inundation

In Tamil Nadu, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpet bore the brunt of cyclone Michuang that passed the capital city and the surrounding districts on December 3, 2023 [Monday]. After surviving water-stagnation, power outages, properterial damage and depleting resources during the first 72 hours, major parts of the city continues to remain inundated with rescue and relief operations being carried out with whatever available resources on the ground.

 

While there has been a huge decline in public volunteering in comparison to 2015 when Chennai was hit by the Vardah cyclone, fan club members of major Tamil film celebrities and some celebrities themselves have been seen helping out at ground level. Actor Ajith Kumar, a major star in Kollywood had helped with the travel arrangements for an entire residential community where Tamil film actor Vishnu Vishal, and Bollywood star actor Aamir Khan were housed members. Vishnu Vishal had tweeted about the water stagnation on December 5, and he along with Khan and other community members were rescued by the Fire service department. 

 

 

Ajith Kumar has also been rendering financial support towards Chennai flood relief. Actor Vijay, another major star cum aspiring politician from the Tamil film industry has been helping out people via his outfit Vijay Makkal Iyakkam. His fan club members have been distributing food using boat services, and otherwise. Vijay has also made an appeal to all members of his outfit to volunteer alongside government workers indulged in rescue and relief operations. 

 

Actor brothers Suriya and Karthi, stars in their own right have deployed members of their respective fan clubs in rescue and relief operations too. Warm meals are being distributed all over Chennai through these members. In addition to these major stars, other known contributions during the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung came from actor Veera, who had helped rescue people out from waterlogged areas using a boat. TV celebrity Aranthaangi Nisha had distributed drinking water in the worst hit Velacherry area. 

 

 

Producers and director of the recently released Tamil film Parking extended a major donation to the Tamil Nadu Chief Ministers' Flood Relief Fund as did the film's lead star Harish Kalyan in individual capacity. Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is a producer cum distributor of movies in the Tamil film industry is also an MLA, Minister in Tamil Nadu. He has been spotted visiting affected areas, distributing relief materials and taking stock of damages, overseeing relief operations in official capacity.

Anchor, VJ Anjana Rangan, Actor plus social media personality Kishen Das have also been actively working as a relief volunteer on ground. Singer, dubbing artiste Chinmayi Sripaada seems to have helped with a generous donation towards one of the operations.
