Former Indian-origin Srilankan cricketer Muthiah Muralidharan is no less of a sports legend, and his biographical story is finally coming onscreen under the title 800 The Movie. If one may recall, Tamil star-performer Vijay Sethupathi was to play the lead in this film, but a strong opposition from pro-Tamil outfits and Tamil celebrities had forced Vijay Sethupathi out of the movie back in 2020. The reason for their opposition was Muralidharan's political leaning during the Sri Lankan Civil war that ended in 2009.

Actor Madhurr Mittal plays Muralidharan in 800 The Movie now, and a recently released trailer of the film showcases the journey of how a Tamil origin cricketer ended up in the Sri Lankan National team amidst the burning civil unrest between the Tamils and Sinhalese in Sri Lanka. 

800 The Movie is titled after Murali's iconic 800 test wickets which till date remains the highest number by any bowler in international cricket. Murali's total wickets of 800 in test and 530 in one day international is also remains an unbeaten record as of 2023. 800 The Movie is directed by MS Sripathy and is produced by Movie Train Motion Picture and Vivek Rangachari.

The film's technical crew includes Ghibran for music, RD Rajasekar ISC for cinematography and Praveen KL for the edits.
