Vetrimaran reacts to Vijay crediting Asuran dialogue for honouring students!

Actor Vijay's official fan-club named Vijay Makkal Iyakkam (VMI) recently held an event named 'Thalapathy Vijay Education Award Ceremony', wherein toppers of class 10 and 12 from 234 constituencies of Tamil Nadu were felicitated by Vijay himself. Addressing the students and their parents, the star-actor during his course of speech had said that the very reason he was inspired to conduct such an event was a dialogue from writer, director Vetrimaaran's 2019 National award winning film Asuran.

"One of the utmost important reasons a function like this was organized is a beautiful movie dialogue that I came across recently - If we have farmlands, they will take it, If we have money, they will snatch it, but no one can ever take away education from you. Those lines left a deep impact on me. Not only is it a hundred percent true but it is what is practicality too. To contribute something to education which has this much importance is what had been running on my mind for a while now, which is why this (the event) is happening now."

Vijay's event and speech went viral in no time and has been the talk of the Tamil community for over two plus days. Director Vetrimaaran during this time was asked by the media how he felt about Vijay's reference of his famous movie dialogue. To this, the filmmaker said,

"When a thing that we have told through cinema reaches an influential person in the society, I view it as an example of a positive impact."

Vijay had also urged the students at his Thalapathy Vijay Education Awards event, to read about famous activist-leaders from Tamil Nadu like Periyar, Kamarajar and B.R. Ambedkar. These leaders have been instrumental in bringing a big change in caste oppression, which to this day plagues Tamil Nadu and India in general. Asuran was also based on caste oppression and the dialogue about education was said by the protagonist as a solution to tackle this problem. So when Vetrimaaran was asked his opinion on Vijay's suggestion, the multiple National award winner said,

"Going by what he has said on that stage, (he meant) we (Tamils) have to know our history. So we have to read about Ambedkar, Kamarajar, (Aringnar) Anna, Periyar; We should read about Anna(durai) too, we must know about them all."
