Raavana Kottam isn't about caste riots, Early reviews second!

Actor Shanthnu Bhagyaraj's last feature film as a lead, that saw a theatrical release was Murungakkai Chips in 2021. His next is the upcoming Raavana Kottam directed by Vikram Sugumaran of Madha Yaanai Kottam (2013) fame and it releases in theaters tomorrow i.e. May 12, 2023. A rural action entertainer, Raavana Kottam is set in a village in Ramanathapuram, where a conflict between two younsters as a result of a love triangle, snowballs into conflicts between two sections of the village.

Previously Tamil Nadu Nadar Sangam president Muthu Ramesh had claimed that the release of the movie could incite caste riots in the Southern districts of the state. The filmmakers had addressed this claim in a press meet stating that Raavana Kottam has nothing to do with caste riots and that their story carries a social message.

While calls for ban on Raavana Kottam's release has still not subsided, early reviews of the movie have started coming out. These reviews seem to confirm that while there are communal angles to the movie, Raavana Kottam is about how sections of people in a village fall prey to the politics of certain bureaucrats.

Also starring Anandhi, Prabhu, Deepa Shankar among others, Raavana Kottam has Justin Prabhakaran for music, and is a production venture of Kannan Ravi Group.
