Exactly 5 years ago, MovieCrow broke the news of a potential collaboration between actor Vijay and multiple National award winning director Vetrimaaran. The star and the filmmaker are yet to collaborate on a project but over the years, Vetrimaaran has confirmed developing a script for the 'Thalapathy' actor and there have been signs of the project moving towards materialization.

All through the era of Beast (2022) and Vijay's last outing Varisu, Vetrimaaran has maintained that he is eager to begin work with Vijay as soon as he wraps his ongoing projects. More recently, this sentiment has been confirmed by a close associate the director.

Actor, filmmaker Tamizh who is a close associate of director Vetrimaaran has said in a recent interview, "A film with Vijay sir is confirmed. That's what I heard. He has narrated a line to Vijay brother and they have agreed on doing a film. I don't know about Kamal sir's film." Vetrimaaran is currently gearing up for the release of Viduthalai Part 1 on March 31, 2023. Vijay on the other hand is shooting Leo with director Lokesh Kanagaraj.
