Ponniyin Selvan grosses Rs. 300 Cr+ & unlike Baahubali makes big profit

Mani Ratnam directed Ponniyin Selvan: Part One (PS-I) has been doing pretty well at the box-office, and the movie has grossed Rs. 300 Cr+ worldwide. Usually with magnum opuses that are made in multiple parts, producers reap only a bare minim profit from the first film release.

Ponniyin Selvan (PS1) WW Gross in 6 Days

Tamil Nadu - Rs. 123 Cr+

Kerala - Rs. 17 Cr.

Telugu States  - Rs. 19 Cr.

Karnataka - Rs. 18 Cr.

Rest of India - Rs. 18 Cr.

Overseas - Rs. 105 Cr.+ [USA - Rs. 36. 58 Cr+, Australia - Rs. 7.4 Cr+]

Total - Rs. 300 Cr+

Like in the case of SS Rajamouli's Baahubali movies, Baahubali: The Beginning grossed Rs. 600 Cr. whereas the producers had already spent a budget of Rs. 450 Cr+ on both movies. So the profit they made from the remaining Rs. 150 Cr was a meager amount. However every single penny made thereon, including from the Rs. 1800 Cr+ theatrical run of Baahubali: The Conclusion, was a profit for the makers.

With Ponniyin Selvan movies though, Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions' plan of not having as much expenditure, has helped them reap huge profits from the first movie itself. PS-I earning Rs. 300 Cr+ in only its first week opens up avenues of big profit numbers, in addition to the profit-potential from the sequel.
