Raja Rani Songs Review

Raja Rani is a romantic film directed by debutante Atlee and produced by A.R.Murugadoss. Arya, Nayanthara, Jai, and Nazriya are in lead roles. The film’s music is composed by G.V. Prakash Kumar and released on 23 August, 2013.

G.V.Prakash has succeeded in dishing out a rich fusion album with unconventional mixing of western and native instruments. The result is a youthful, fresh and melodious album from G.V.Prakash.

 Hey Baby

Singers: G.V.Prakash Kumar, Gana Bala, Aishwarya. Lyrics: Na.Muthukumar, Gana Bala.

Hey Baby was released as a single and part of the theatrical teaser release, The first stanza combines elements of jazz, classical, and pop music rendered in a leisurely pace. The transition to gaana portions in the second stanza is not seamless, probably intentional. The gaana lines such as "Marriage-u Machan Kaleej-nu Gajaa Sonaan" has ensured that the song reaches the masses. The highlight of the song is the way G.V. Prakash Kumar and Gaana Bala have sung it with assured confidence.

Angnyaade

Singer: Shakthisri Gopalan; Lyrics: Pa.Vijay.

This song has a fusion of folksy lyrics and tunes mixed with contemporary sounds. It is well sung by Shakthisri Gopalan who is becoming a default singer for most of the pseudo-folk songs after her solo-hits songs in Kadal and Maryan.

 Chillena

Singers: Clinton Cerejo, Alphonse, Alka; Lyrics: Na.Muthukumar.

Another song with mix of western and folkish touch. The song's main thread is carried by strong western beats and anglicized rendition interspersed with Tamil folk and Malayalam traditional lines. The song has scope for interesting picturization and possible showcasing of all lead characters in their elements.

 Unnale Unnale

Singers: Vandana Srinivasan; Lyrics: Na.Muthukumar

Unnale is a little gem. The husky voice of Vandana suits the song and leaves you asking for more.

 Oday Oday

Singers: Vijay Prakash, Sasha, Shalmali Kholgade; Lyrics: Pa.Vijay

The song is filled with Tanglish lyrics well-sung by Vijay Prakash with lot of casual mood and attitude. The song may not make it hurriedly to your playlist. But, at the same time there is enough enthusiasm in the song to make sure you don't reach for the skip button.

 Imaye Imaye

Singers:  G.V.Prakash Kumar, Shakthisri Gopalan; Lyrics : Pa.Vijay.

One of the best songs of the album with fresh and soulful music. The orchestration and tune perfectly complement each other and brings the necessary impact through well-written lyrics. The singing by GV Prakash deserves a special mention again. This song provides the required gravitas to close-out the album.

 A Love for Life

Singers: G.V.Prakash Kumar, Navin Iyer, Chennai Symphony

G.V.Prakash Kumar has always been consistent with his theme music and this track is no exception. This is a beautiful piano track mounted on the "Imaye" song. As witnessed in previous GV Prakash album, the track should help propel the story forward.

Final Word - GV Prakash nails Raja Rani. Must Listen!

Album Rating – 7.5 / 10
