Girish Karnad passes away at 81, Kamal Haasan, Nagma among Film celebs to mourn the loss!

Known to the Tamil audience as an actor who has appeared in films like 24, Chellamae, Hey Ram, Minsaara Kanavu, Kadhalan and Guna among others, 81 year old Girish Karnad who was also a noted playwright, filmmaker and actor passed away on Monday after his prolonged illness. The Karnataka based personality who has a Padma Bhushan to his credit breathed his last in his residential city of Bengaluru.

Tamil film industry's actors turned politicians Nagma and Kamal Haasan were among the first to react to the news of Karnad's passing away on Twitter and several film industry names have since mourned the loss of the veteran personality.

Last seen on-screen in the Bollywood film Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), Karnad who has been active in the film industry since the 70s was best known for his playwrights Nagmandala, Yayati and Tughlaq. In his early career, he successfully directed three award winning Kannada films and was conferred the Padma Shri for his literary work.

He gained recognition for his appearances as an actor in mainstream cinema in the early 90s and has since appeared in a number of films, most recently Shivaay (Hindi), Dheera Rana Vikrama (Kannada), Rudra Tandava (Kannada), Mugamoodi (Tamil), Ek Tha Tiger (Hindi) and Komaram Puli (Malayalam) among others.
