MC Weekly Music Roundup: Shabbir and Siddhu shine this week

Weekly Earworm – Week 5 – 08/06/2019

Ramesh S Kannan

After Yaayum, Shabir drops in listenable Nenjamundu Nermayundu Odu Raja while debutant Siddhu Kumar serviceable melodies helps Sasi's Sivappu Manjal Patchai

7Up Madras gig Season 2: Ghibran: Nee Illama:

Nee illama, Ghibran's latest single for 7Up season 2 and also he debuts as a singer himself for this pleasant melody. Ghibran kept the arrangements simple and minimal with sporadic synth dominated sounds spattered in the interludes. The soothing tune is backed by conversational lyrics by the composer and SN Anuradha.

Sivappu Manjal Patchai: Siddhu Kumar: Idhu dhaan:

The debutant Siddhu composer delivers another smashing melody after Usure from the same movie and the lilting melody is elevated by Naresh Iyer and Shashaa Tirupati. Siddhu arrangements also feature a brilliant amalgamation of soulful violin solo by Balaji in the prelude and Nakul Abhyankar's kazoo along with Vishnu's flute in the interludes makes this one a beautiful listen.

Pakiri: Amit Trivedi: English Lovesu:

The tune has typical Amit Trivedi flavor nevertheless highly listenable one as always from the composer and Paras Nath's flute solos is a lovely addition to the tune and the songs get much better in the charanam portions while Jonita Gandhi is restricted to humming in the interludes. Amit Trivedi's Hindi version vocals suit much better for the tinge of folksy tune than Dhanush's Tamil version.

Sindubadh: Yuvan Shankar Raja:Nenja Unakaga:

The prelude of Nenja Unakaga sounds more like Santosh Narayanan's composition than Yuvan Shankar Raja. The tune takes time to get through the listener but Haricharan's vocals and the lovely arrangements especially Balesh's Shehnai towards the end make this one an interesting listen.

Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu 2: V Selvaganesh: Orasatha di:

Selvaganesh is retained as the composer with the completely different crew from the film's prequel. The song sounds like the equivalent of Lesa Parakkuthu and though slightly fares tad lower than that. The serviceable melody from the composer works to its favor with a brilliant rendition by Karthik and Swetha Menon.

Nenjamundu Nermaiyundu Odu Raja: Shabir: Anbin Vazhi, Thuppuna Thodachukuvom:

If Thuppuna Thodachukuvom gains immensely from the hilarious political lyrics by Kumanan Kumaran, Anbin Vazhi easily wins over in the soundtrack with the affecting lyrics by Priyan. Shabir brings together Sharanya Srinivas and Sahana Niren Kumar to croon this soothing tune and also the team comes up with the touching making video for the song.

Pick of the week: Anbin Vazhi, English Lovesu, Idhu dhaan
