Thuppaki emerges top in N. America BO in 2012

Based on the estimates and actual collections gathered from multiple sources (US Distributor ATMUS, Canada Estimates, MCN), Thuppakki gross revenue is conservatively expected to be around $450,000 (Rs. 2.5 Crores) for North America (US and Canada). This puts Thuppakki higher than Nanban and taking the honor of being the highest grosser of 2012 in this region.

Opening Box Office estimates for US and Canada

The official estimates for this weekend provided for entire North America (incl. US and Canada) is around $242,000. The actual numbers can be tallied once the Rentrak official data comes out on Monday. Also, note Rentrak numbers do not report all centers and also where one shows are held in smaller cities.

For USA region, the total gross collection is $320,349 until Sunday. For Canada, the release was delayed and could not open on Diwali due to distribution issues. Vijay has a huge fan following in Canada and expected to have brought close to $150,000 with most of the gross contributed by a few major screens from Toronto.

By taking the actual numbers and estimates gathered from multiple sources, Thuppakki's North America collection is roughly estimated around $450,000 (Rs. 2.5 Crores) comfortably making it the highest grosser in North America for 2012. Vijay and AR Murugadoss' Thuppakki has cruised past the previous record set by Vijay and Shankar's Nanban. We will have to wait and see one more week to confirm whether Thuppakki's North America box office will surpass the unofficial box office numbers of Sivaji and Dasavatharam.
