The title of Rajinikanth's upcoming film, tentatively known as Thalaivar 173, will be revealed on June 24 at 10 am. The makers announced the title reveal on social media, though details about the director and rest of the crew were notably absent from the announcement.

The film has seen considerable directorial turbulence. Sundar C was first announced as director before exiting due to creative differences, followed by Cibi Chakravarthi, who was brought on board with Anirudh as music composer. Reports of Cibi's exit surfaced later, with Ashwath Marimuthu — director of Dragon — emerging as the most prominent name in the speculation that followed.

Produced by Kamal Haasan under Raaj Kamal Films International alongside Mahendran's Turmeric Media, Thalaivar 173 marks the first collaboration between the two legends. They will also share screen space in a separate yet-untitled film directed by Nelson. Rajinikanth's immediate next remains Jailer 2, also directed by Nelson, set for release later this year.
