Karuppu Makers Issue Legal Notice After Unauthorised Screenings in North India - Warn Against Piracy

As the release crisis surrounding Suriya's Karuppu continued to unfold, the makers have now issued a strongly worded legal notice after discovering that portions of the film were unlawfully screened in certain North Indian theatres due to unauthorised activation of KDMs by Qube Cinema Technologies.

In the notice issued by advocate Vijayan Subramanian on behalf of Dream Warrior Pictures, the makers expressed shock and dismay over the illegal exhibition. The notice revealed that the film, made with investments running into several hundreds of crores and planned for release across more than 20 countries and approximately 3,000 screens worldwide, was screened without the producer's final authorisation — resulting in scenes and clips being recorded and circulated across social media platforms.

The notice sternly warned the public against downloading, recording, storing, forwarding, sharing, or circulating any content from Karuppu across platforms including WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, and torrent sites. Any such activity, the notice stated, constitutes serious offences under the Copyright Act 1957, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, and the Information Technology Act 2000 — punishable with severe civil and criminal consequences.

Meanwhile, the makers are yet to officially confirm a revised release date, with May 15 or a subsequent date being speculated.
